According to the decision adopted at the ASEAN Regional Forum Election Observer Mission - ARF’s Experts and Eminent Persons Group (EEPG) meeting in Dili on January 2011 the ARF Election Observer Mission created for the first time took part in observing the Parliamentary Elections in Timor Leste - TL conducted on July 7, 2012.

A diplomat from the Russian Embassy in Indonesia was one of the ARF EOM members.

Among other ARF mission members were also parlamenterians, election commissions’ and foreign ministry’s officials, political and legal experts from a number of other ARF member-states such as Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Republic of Korea, Japan, New Zealand and the United States of America.

“During the Election Day the ARF Observers worked at the polling stations in Dili, Aileu, Manatuto, Liquica and Ermera. In particular Russian representative visited more than dozen polling stations in Dili, Liquica and Ermera” sited in a media release sent by the Russian Embassy in Jakarta.

As mentioned in the release, during its activities the ARF EOM members haven’t met any significant violations which could have somehow influenced the elections process or its results.

The ARF mission prepared appropriate report for the ARF Secretariat which will be officially announced during the 19th Session of ARF in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on July 11-12, 2012. (*/CJITL)
